CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE OF SOUND

When: September 25 – 26 - 27 (Monday - Wednesday), 2017

Location: MISC (Music Innovation Studies Center, LMTA, VILNIUS, Gedimino pr. 42) consist of 24 speakers setting for spherical surround, specialized studies and sound research equipment, special mobile acoustic space for recording music and sounds. MiSC is focusing its activities on synergy of arts, research and technologies in the context of local and international programmes

Description: The workshop focuses on how we can create certain emotional signification with sound in a film or audiovisual artwork. During the session a segment of Dracula (Browning 1931) will be taken to consider how sound implies certain aesthetic meaning. The audience will be able to appreciate the difference between the traditional film scoring and enhanced interpretation of the surround version. This research is based on the author‘s PhD project at Bournemouth University (2014). During the 3-day workshop the participants will have an opportunity to experiment with the same segment of the film by themselves. The purpose of this practice- based exercise is to learn and test how sound works with audiovisual media, and what are the artistic consideration of the spherical sound (24 speakers setting). For this purpose the workshop participants will be able to create and construct their original soundtracks (from the provided library sounds, possibility to record original sounds, or even compose and record music compositions if applicable).

Criteria for the participants: The workshop is designated to the artists who are interested in the role of sound in an audiovisual artwork, and how it works in practice. It is not required to have professional music or sound design background to be a participant of the workshop, but the acquaintance with music or sound editing programs is an advantage.  If you are interested on applying please send us the following information as a combined PDF file via email: titas@titasmusic.com

Deadline for the applications is 15th September, 2017.

Applications will be evaluated and the answers given 18th September, 2017.

There is no fee for the workshop participants, however selected participants would have to cover their travel and living expenses by themselves during the workshop in Vilnius. Workshop organizers’ will give some recommendations for the accommodation in Vilnius.

After the workshop all participants could attend free of charge the International conference and Master classes MUSIC AND SOUND DESIGN IN FILM AND NEW MEDIA (WHEN THEORY MEETS PRACTICE) on 28 th to 30th of September, 2017 in Vilnius, Lithuania.
